Happy New Year - 2010

From Louie & all of us, we would like to wish all our family & friends a very happy new year. We hope you will have happiness, health, peace, love & laughter, always. God Bless all.

Catch up for the new year

'Mamma', Dadda', 'hiya', 'ta ta', 'too too' (choo, choo), 'ooee (Louie), 'an (Gran), 'bye bye'.............the same happened last Christmas, with the focus off of routine & with more time to spend relaxing around the house, Louie has been able to focus on some key words...........and he's picked up some new sounds in only a couple of weeks. It helps that Louie is very good at mimicking physical actions; it seems he is equally as good at mimicking sounds & words too. Given that the weather has had us snowed in & unable to safely leave the house, we have had plenty of time to focus on the children, particularly Louie. We've also been feeding the birds daily.......well, I throw out bread into the garden & Louie just as quickly throws the bread into his mouth! But then we stand and watch the birds fly down as I 'sign' birds & keep repeating 'birds' verbally. Louie will now do his version of the sign for 'birds' & say 'B,B'.

Just before Christmas Louie had his first eye test, including those nippy little eye drops. He wasn't phased at all, was very good through the swift process, & the Doctor returned the result of 'absolutely fine eyesight. 'No problems at all'. It was me who was more anxious about it all!

His two yearly hearing test was a mere formality, again Louie passing with flying colours. No sign of any glue ear either.

Our next medical visit will be to get his thyroid blood test again, that will be in March, followed again by his 'Down Syndrome protocol' hearing test in June. We're starting to see the pattern for these test now!

I have Louie down to potentially start nursery in September this year (that'll be a difficult one for me to deal with!!!!! Soppy Mummy!) In the mean time we continue to go twice weekly to a couple of pre-school toddler groups, one of which is designed for children with additional support needs.

So we'll see what the new year holds for us all. God willing we'll have happiness & health, that's all we ask for.
